Time to break out the clay.....
After tightening up my initial sketch a bit (thanks for the helpful input, guys), I then went on to flesh out the other angles. I prefer to not fully design my creations in advance because I find it ruins the spontaneity and freshness (too tight a sketch makes the finishing process rather redundant, in my opinion), I feel this kind of project benefits from some solid planning. Otherwise, some design problems may surface, possibly resulting in my having to un-do a fair amount of work. I did leave the other views a little rough, but I feel there's enough there for me to get by.
And, I did some design work on the base:
For those of you that are not familiar, this flaming eye in the star is known as an Elder Sign from Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos, sometimes known to be a ward or binding symbol to contain entities. It doesn't appear to be doing it's job in this case, though!
And now for a little business, if I may. In hopes to help supplement my fund raising efforts, I am selling off some of my extra copies of Mythos related fiction, games, etc. As an illustrator, I get complimentary copies of my published work from my publisher, and they've really piled up over the last decade or so.
