Where'd my brain go?
A 'nucleus' update...

As I suggested earlier, the brain just wasn't doing it for me. Lobotomy time! Maybe it was too human looking while at the same time not giving the viewer enough to connect with emotionally. So, I have gone with something vaguely eye-like (and perhaps even face-like), while blurring the lines between flesh and stone. I kept reminding myself that this thing is not a defined earthly being, nor is it defined as something that even operates on similar laws (physics, etc). With that in mind, I feel more free to just paint what feels right, and not be bound by any rules or guidelines other than Lovecraft's single sentence. This combination of freedom, everyone's support and comments and the anticipation of the museum experience has been making this an extremely enjoyable experience!

Wow, I like what you've done with the place! The new lighting effects (if that's the term) on the pillars in the lower portion of the building have brought them into a real focus now, and given it a sense of depth (and, again, magnitude) that I find very fitting in this kind of artwork.
However (just to be perverse) I think you've actually defined the creature too much!
Of course, I'm certain that it'll come out looking amazing, just like all your work. Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.

It's amazing to see what some simple matching curtains can do for a place, isn't it??
Thanks for the input and the two cents, that'll go towards airfare. I am assuming you saw 'cyclops face' before I commented on an eye and possible face, right? I may have to obscure it more, if that is the case. It's a fine line I am trying to walk on, I want it alien yet with the slight hint that makes the viewer perhaps interpret an eye or the equivalent. Maybe if I tone down what could be considered a mouth.
As I've been painting this, I have been thinking a bit about this nameless thing and what it's story could be. It's a rather unique opportunity, as it is a true concept of Lovecraft's yet it allows a lot more of the artist's input. I've been thinking that this creature is in some way like the Colour Out Of Space, in that it came from some other world or plane and fell to earth, and started to infect the surrouding area. Perhaps the castle or cathedral (or whatever this stone structure is) was later built over that area, over the years things just got stranger and stranger until it was considered tainted or cursed, and the structure was abandoned and fell to decay.
On that note,

Just to clarify, yes, I saw the "face" before I read the attached comment. I think it's having both the mouth and the eye that pushes it a bit ott.
Can't wait to see what you do next!
